| Mixed media installation, 4’ x 3’ approx. 2007 I created this installation for Artfusion North’s ‘Presence’ exhibition at Trinity Church, Leeds. My response to place was to base my idea on the font however I wanted to invoke a feeling of tension in the viewer and encourage interaction with the work so I incorporated molasses as the ‘liquid’ to provoke the senses. I resisted the ‘do not touch’ sign which allowed the viewer to freely engage with the work, often taking part of it away with them.“Its stickiness is a trap, it clings like a leech; it attacks the boundary between myself and it.” (Jean-Paul Sartre, 1943) |
